Job Overview
This role is the addition of a second Teacher-Librarian to accommodate growing numbers and increased emphasis on building literacy skills for all students. The successful candidate will share the following responsibilities with our current member of staff in this role.
Responsibilities and Duties
TEACHING
-
Actively participate in teaching and learning across the school, ensuring library services and research tools align with the school’s IB goals and curriculum.

Support teachers and learners by recommending and providing strategies, resources, and instructional materials to facilitate curriculum implementation.

Design, deliver, and model instruction that develops students’ information literacy and research skills at all stages of learning.

Collaborate with academic staff to co-develop and co-teach information literacy lessons, units, and assessments.
-
Plan and implement coherent, well-sequenced learning activities that engage students and maximize learning outcomes.
-
Integrate information resources, digital tools, and collaborative technologies into classroom teaching through joint planning, instruction, and evaluation with classroom teachers.

Advocate for and promote inquiry-based learning practices across the school, supporting inquiry projects and assessments.

Curate and maintain a diverse, curriculum-aligned collection of print and digital resources that support IB programs and student research.

Teach and support ethical use of information, including citation practices, academic honesty, and digital citizenship.

Monitor and evaluate the impact of library programs on student learning and collaborate with staff to continuously improve library services.
READING AND LITERATURE

Select, read, and actively promote a wide range of literature that reflects the diverse interests, cultures, and reading levels of students

Maintain current knowledge of quality fiction and non-fiction
-
Support and implement school-wide reading programmes that encourage students to explore diverse genres and authors
-
Guide students in selecting appropriate and challenging reading materials based on their interests and abilities
-
Facilitate literature-based activities such as book clubs, literature circles, author studies, and reading challenges
-
Create opportunities for students to discuss, analyze, and respond to literature in meaningful ways
-
Foster a community of readers through collaborative and independent reading experiences

Support students in making connections between literature and IB transdisciplinary themes
MANAGEMENT
-
Develop, manage, and maintain the library collection (print and digital), including selection, acquisition, cataloguing, and weeding.

Oversee the Library Management System to ensure accurate records, efficient circulation, and seamless user access.

Organise and maintain physical and virtual resources for easy discovery and retrieval.
-
Ensure the library environment is welcoming, safe, and supportive for all students and staff.

Manage day-to-day library operations, including scheduling, staffing, budgets, supplies, and equipment maintenance.

Implement efficient circulation and resource-access procedures.
-
Plan and run promotions, displays, events, and reading initiatives (e.g., Book Week) to encourage reading and resource use.

Monitor usage, assess resource needs, and report on collection effectiveness to inform development and budgeting.

Provide training and guidance to staff and students on accessing and using library resources and technologies.
Qualifications and Experience

Teaching qualifications from a recognised institution

Library qualification from a recognised institute (or working towards)
-
At least 3 years of experience working as a teacher-librarian in an IB school
-
Experience in supporting IB PYP Exhibitions and/or IB DP Extended Essay is an asset

TIS was established in 2002 to provide a Canadian curriculum and accreditation to local and expatriate students. It opened with an initial total enrolment of 58 students on the campus of Macau University of Science and Technology.
